Race for Life 2011

June 2011 - Some of our Peer Supporters took their bras to Rhyl for the day and had a great time!

Claire, Gail, Felicity, Toria & Colette

The lasses were especially well-supported by bras which were provided by HotMilk (the name is "Wild Composure"), and they helped to get across the group's message that if you're lucky enough to have been provided with a pair of boobs, you should use 'em!

Breastfeeding has been shown to reduce the risk of 2 types of Breast Cancer.
It is one of two “lifestyle factors” that are associated with “convincing decreased risk” of breast cancer for all women (family history or not) - exercise is the other factor. (Further reading here)

  • The risk of post-menopausal breast cancer is reduced by 4.3% for every 12 months of breastfeeding.
  • For those women with a family history of breast cancer, however, the benefits are enormous - breastfeeding accrues a whopping 59% reduction in the risk of pre-menopausal breast cancer.

Or, to put it more directly - NOT breastfeeding your children will increase the risk of developing breast cancer, particularly if you have a family history of the disease.

Further benefits!
Any mother breastfeeding a baby girl can also congratulate herself that she is ALSO reducing her daughter's risk of breast cancer - by around 25%!!
